The aim of this study was to (1) explore the antecedents of truck drivers’ job satisfaction, (2) identify the impact of financial and nonfinancial job properties on satisfaction with the job and with one's employer, and (3) the drivers’ proneness to retaining their jobs. Based on the extant literature, we develop a conceptual model that is tested using survey data for 164 truck drivers. Multiple linear and ordinal logistic regressions were used to estimate the proposed effects. The results reveal that nonfinancial job properties and satisfaction with one's employer affect job satisfaction is statistically significant. Financial and nonfinancial job properties affect satisfaction with one's employer whereas the former shows a lower impact compared to the latter. Satisfaction with the job and one's employer impacts retention proneness. The contribution of this study was to (1) add to the understanding of the factors that predict retention of truck drivers in relationship to job satisfaction and (2) highlight the different roles of financial and nonfinancial job properties in this specific work context.  相似文献

Research summary : Prior literature drawing on the behavioral theory of the firm has not considered how resource constraints impact the direction of organizational change in response to performance shortfalls relative to aspirations. We argue that decreasing financial resources resulting from substantial performance shortfalls and the absence or availability of slack resources together affect the emphasis on different types of organizational change in response to performance shortfalls. Using data on the acquisition and divestment behavior of 530 companies in the information and communications technology sector from 1992 to 2014, we find that the frequency of resource‐consuming acquisitions and of resource‐freeing divestments are affected differently by performance below aspirations and that these relationships are moderated by the level of financial slack. Managerial summary : This paper examines whether firms respond to performance shortfalls with acquisitions or divestments. We argue and show that the closer the firm is to the aspired level of performance, the more likely it is to respond with resource‐consuming acquisitions to close the performance gap, whereas the further it is from aspired performance, the more likely the firm is to respond with divestments to free resources. Financial slack weakens these relationships between performance relative to aspirations and acquisitions or divestments such that it increases the likelihood of a response through acquisitions while it reduces the likelihood of a response through divestments. 本文基于员工感知的视角,以工作倦怠作为中介变量,探索员工感知的高绩效工作系统对离职倾向的影响机制。通过来自企业256 个有效样本的实证研究发现,员工感知的高绩效工作系统与离职倾向显著负相关;工作倦怠及其子维度情感耗竭、玩世不恭与离职倾向显著正相关,而子维度成就感低落与离职倾向相关性不显著;工作倦怠在员工感知的高绩效工作系统与离职倾向之间起部分中介作用;员工感知的高绩效工作系统可通过影响员工的情感耗竭、玩世不恭情绪,间接对离职倾向产生影响,而成就感低落的中介效应不显著。  相似文献

工业用水总量测算是我国实行最严格水资源管理制度的一项重要工作。为了利用现有水利统计成果对工业用水总量进行测算,文章选取了基于历史数据的预测方法和计量结合抽样的统计方法测算工业用水量,提出了"以计量结合抽样法为主,趋势外推法进行对比校核"的工业用水量测算方法。结果表明:对10万m~3以上规模的工业采用全样本计量,对规模以下的工业按一定比例进行抽样计量,测算值的相对误差可控制在10%左右。对于技术和统计投入受限的省份,可利用2011年水利普查数据和其他历史数据,适当采用趋势外推法对原有数据进行修正。  相似文献

The shale oil and gas boom has had large economic, environmental, and social impacts on rural communities in the United States. This study provides novel estimates of the impacts of shale oil and gas development on light pollution in rural areas of the United States. Using nationwide, time-calibrated DMSP-OLS database from 2000 to 2012, we find robust evidence that the shale oil and gas boom significantly increased light pollution in rural areas. We then assess associations between horizontal drilling and subjective self-rated health using nationwide data from the Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System (BRFSS) from 2000 to 2012. Our findings suggest that insufficient sleep and poor health (physical or mental) are associated with increased drilling in rural areas. These results provide support for drilling-related light pollution as an additional environmental pathway of concern for public health beyond the mechanisms of air or water pollution.  相似文献

We consider a resource-dependent economy initially ruled by the elite. The transition from the autocratic to a more democratic regime takes place only if the citizens decide to revolt against the elite. The occurrence of a revolution primarily depends on the autocratic regime vulnerability and the level of inequalities, both being driven by the elite׳s redistribution and repression policies. First, we show that when a political transition is inevitable, the elite choose the maximum rate of redistribution to lengthen their period in office. Second, we find that the duration of the autocratic regime is linked to resource abundance, and how it relates to the elite׳s policies. More resources lead to a shorter reign of a redistributive regime, which may not be the case of a repressive regime. Finally, we interpret the Arab spring sequence in light of our findings.  相似文献

This article reviews the service management and marketing literature on managing people with a particular emphasis on managerial relevance. This review explores the market and financial results of managing people effectively, emphasizing that it is probably harder to duplicate high-performing human assets than any other corporate resource. The challenges inherent in boundary-spanning frontline jobs are discussed, including role conflict and emotional labor. Next, recommended human resources (HR) strategies and practices related to recruitment, training, empowerment, service delivery teams, and employee motivation are reviewed. The literature review concludes with a section on service culture, climate, and leadership. Each section is complemented with further research suggestions that emerged from interviews with eight academic and practitioner experts. The last section outlines six themes for new research opportunities with high potential managerial relevance; they relate to (1) the financial impact of HR practices and strategies, (2) motivating service employees, (3) training, (4) emotional labor, (5) dealing with rude customers, and (6) the impact of technology on managing service employees.  相似文献

全面收集整理了2007-2015年威海市渔业资源、经济和社会统计数据,在分析海洋渔业资源特点基础上,利用层次分析法原理构建了威海市海洋渔业资源可持续利用评价指标体系,该指标体系包括资源环境子系统、社会子系统和经济子系统3个层次的24个指标,采用层次分析法确定各指标的权重,应用层次灰色综合评价模型首次定量评估了2007-2015年威海市海洋渔业资源可持续利用水平。结果表明:2007年,威海市海洋渔业资源可持续利用综合评价值为0.45,2008年,评价值降至近9年的最低值0.15,仅为2007年的33.2%,2009年评价值回升到0.48,2010年,再次下降到较低的水平0.17,仅为2009年的35.9%,2010-2014年评价值一直维持在极低的水平,海洋渔业资源可持续利用水平一直处于较低的状态,2015年,评价值达到最大值0.82,是最低值的5.54倍,海洋渔业资源可持续利用水平明显提高。  相似文献
